Unfortunately, LDA is not suitable for problems where the class labels are not available and only the spatial or temporal association of data samples is implicitly indicative of class membership. In this study, a new strategy for reducing LDA to Hotelling’s canonical correlation analysis (CCA) is proposed. CCA seeks prominently correlated projections between two views of data and it has been long known to be equivalent to LDA when the data features are used in one view and the class labels are used in the other view. The basic idea of the new equivalence between LDA and CCA, which we call withinclass coupling CCA (WCCCA), is to apply CCA to pairs of data samples that are most likely to belong to the same class. We prove the equivalence between LDA and such an application of CCA. With such an implicit representation of the class labels, WCCCA is applicable both to regular LDA problems and to problems in which only spatial and/or temporal continuity provides clues to the class labels. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Identification of Risk Factors by Using Macroeconomic and Firm-Specific Variables Simultaneously in Tehran Stock Exchange by Applying Canonical Correlation Analysis

The main objective of this study is to give the insight of describing mixing accounting ratios and macroeconomic variables as the risk factors in Iran. The results indicate a significant relationship between book to market ratio, financial leverage, size factors and expected stock returns in the Iranian market. In consistent with the other studies, we came to the conclusion that the term struct...

Generalization of Canonical Correlation Analysis from Multivariate to Functional Cases and its related problems

In multivariate cases, the aim of canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for two sets of variables x and y is to obtain linear combinations of them so that they have the largest possible correlation. However, when x and y are continouse functions of another variable (generally time) in nature, these two functions belong to function spaces which are of infinite dimension, and CCA for them should b...

The effect of word frequency and lexical class on articulatory-acoustic coupling

Word frequency and lexical class distinction between function and content words have been shown to significantly influence word production. In this paper, we use real-time magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the effect of word frequency and lexical class on articulatory characteristics (the articulator speed) as well as acoustic characteristics (F0 and short-term energy) in word productio...

Effects of environmental factors on species diversity of rotifers using biodiversity indicators and canonical correlation analysis (CCA)

Rotifers are microscopic aquatic animals of phylum Rotifera, live in a diverse range of aquatic habitats. They are important in ecology of freshwater ecosystems by recycling nutrients and can alter trophic dynamic of planktonic communities. These features have also been used to infer environmental conditions in an aquatic habitat. Because of the important roles of this group of animals in the t...
